Over the last few weeks, Year 3 have learnt the vocabulary for part of the body, and sung Head, shoulders, knees and toes in French. They also learnt the names of the different colours and learnt Il and Elle as pronouns to use when describing a monster. They read and listened to a description of a monster which they then drew. The following they coloured it in, as per the description. They then wrote sentences describing a monster.

Y3 Marble run

Image
Last week Y3 completed building their final product! The children worked together to plan out their marble runs, they used their knowledge from our skill sessions on joins and howmto creat bends and bridges. All of the marble runs worked and looked great! The children were so pleased with themselves and made me proud :) Well done Y3! This week we will be evaluating our marble runs.

Fieldwork

Image
This week, year three have enjoyed going outside to complete their fieldwork. They visited four different areas of the school and debated the risk in that area for lava flow, ash cloud, earthquakes, landslides and more. Using their knowledge from their lessons they were able to discuss and justify their answers. Fabulous lesson year three.

DT Making our smoothies!

Image
Today Elm class demonstrated their health and safety knowledge of the kitchen by safely making their own smoothie. They followed their individual recipes and own instructions to create their tasty drinks! The children also learnt about the importance of packing-why we some products need it and what information it should include. They then designed packaging for their own smoothies! Well done Elm class! Next week we will be evaluating our smoothies :)

Computing - Stop Motion Animation

Today in computing we began to learn about stop motion animation. We used a piece of software to create a stick man animation of a basketball. The children loved getting their animations to work and should be very proud of their results!

Y3 worked hard writing care sheets for the ducklings. They included important diet and housing information. The children all understood that ducks need friends to be happy :)

Why do people choose to live near volcanoes?

Image
Are people crazy to live near a volcano? Today, the children identified both positive and negative reasons to live near a volcano.  There are many islands in the world that are volcanic islands, where people choose to go on holiday.  Some countries, use the heat from the magma and steam to provide their houses with natural heating and hot water. Furthermore, they mine for minerals, gold, lead and sulphur from the magma,  However, there are some negatives to living near a volcano as when they erupt they can destroy both houses and landscapes as well as mud slides. The ash and volcanic eruptions also stop travel around the world.

Y3 Science Forces and Magnets

Image
In Science last week the children demonstrated their knowledge of forces and magnets by designing an experiment to investigate which of the magnets provided was the strongest. The children had the freedom to present their work however they saw fit. I was very impressed with their scientific thinking and everyone could explain fully which magnet was the strongest/ weakest and why. Well done Y3!
