ARCHIVED Year 3 Blog 2024/25

 Year 3 revised umbers and months of the year. They also practised how to say their birthday. They watched a video about a birthday party for a dog, which they enjoyed. They then looked at an example of an invitation to a party, which they then copied, adding in their own details and decorated. 

  Helping or Harming? In PSHE this week, Year 3 were learning about how our bodies can be helped or harmed by different things, and how we can make choices about what we consume. We had some fantastic discussions about this, for example: enjoying chocolate in moderation, how many doughnuts is too many doughnuts(!), what makes water the best drink for our bodies, and why some drinks are not for children.  Year 3 were then tasked with sorting a range of different foods, drinks and ingredients into 'helping' or 'harming' for bodies. We were especially impressed to see that children understood that some items could be harmful for one person but not for another, for example, if somebody has allergies. Keep up the super sensible decision-making! 

Year 3 have been hard at work this week exploring the apparatus. After the important safety talks, they were away with all of the swinging and climbing usually reserved for the rain forest.   

This week, Year 3 have been practising their ruler skills by measuring objects and images in centimetres and millimetres. On Friday, we learned a new piece of vocabulary: perimeter. We quickly got to work finding the perimeter of a range of different 2D shapes, and even some objects in our classroom... We now know the perimeter of our tables! We have been so impressed by the speed and accuracy of the mental maths used to add measurements together. Well done Year 3!

 Year 3 have been learning about the months of the year and numbers to 31. They ordered numbers from 20 to 31 with their partners and sang  a numbers song and revised months of the year. They then told their partners how old they were and then wrote down their ages in their books. 

Music - African Rhythm This term in music year 3 have been looking at creating rhythms, based on the story Handa's Surprise. They have started to compose their own songs about the fruits that they would put into their own baskets. We have learned about how to read notated rhythms and looked at some of the musical symbols.  The children impressed me with their ability to notate their own rhythms to remember for next week. We have looked at some traditional African instruments and grouped them into families, discussing what familiar instruments they are similar to. (Wind, Strings, percussion...) 

In history today, Year 3 designed their own museum wall displays to teach others about the Bronze Age.
