Music - African Rhythm

This term in music year 3 have been looking at creating rhythms, based on the story Handa's Surprise.

They have started to compose their own songs about the fruits that they would put into their own baskets. We have learned about how to read notated rhythms and looked at some of the musical symbols.

The children impressed me with their ability to notate their own rhythms to remember for next week.

We have looked at some traditional African instruments and grouped them into families, discussing what familiar instruments they are similar to. (Wind, Strings, percussion...)
