What is a county?

Today the children recapped their learning from last week and then they completed ‘Where in the World’.

They then looked at the 4 countries of the United Kingdom and watched them magically split into smaller parts known as counties. Using a letter, the children identified the county and post code of places on the Isle of Wight and then came to the conclusion that the Isle of Wight is a county.

The children continued to build upon their skills using an atlas and its contents page to find the relevant map. Using the map they were able to answer questions about the size of the counties, which were found in the east or west and if any were landlocked. The children are becoming very efficient using an atlas and this is great to see.

Finally, they located different counties in the United Kingdom as well as deciding which country they were found and the compass direction.

Some amazing work today year 3, well done.
