Image
. In DT last week Y3 practised making bridges and bends ready for their final marble run design. They discovered which joins and shapes worked well, and which did not! Children were very resourceful and utilised recycling materials to build their creations. We talked about how different bridges and bends will extend the marble run and will make it more interesting

PSHE  The children in year 3 have been learning all about money! They have been talking about what 'income' is and what 'earning money' means. Today we have looked at lots of different job roles. In groups, the children focused on one job role each, discussing what the role entails. They have discussed; the duties involved, the knowledge required and the type of person that they think would be a good match to that job.

What features can we find in or around a volcano?

This week, the children watched videos of  volcanoes erupting as well as the many things that come out of volcanoes: gas,  volcanic bombs. They were really impressed with the Pyroclastic Cloud\ Ash cloud and how this travels so quickly over the land. From there, they identified the different features found inside a volcano as well an outside.

In DT last week Y3 were investigating how to build free standing structures. We talked about how to build a strong and stable base. We then looked at how marble runs are set up and thought about how we could build different bridges ready for when we build our own marble runs!

Last week Y3 met the school ducklings! They used our school values to be kind, respectful and safe when handling the ducklings. The children learnt all about how eggs develop and how we can candle eggs to check if they have been fertilised. We talked about how the incubator acts like the mother duck to keep the eggs warm and safe. The children learnt about duck diets, enrichment and husbandry. We all enjoyed meeting the ducklings but agreed they were very messy and needed lots of care!
