Year 3 Blog 2024/25

 Last Thursday the Y3's had a wonderful visit to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in Sandown! The children were fantastic and asked lots of great questions. Both classes received a tour around the sanctuary which supported our learning in science. We learnt about diets, nutrition and the different skeletons of the animals. We also learnt about their behaviour, habitats and the importance of conservation. The bears even came out to play in the pool!

 Last week in Y3 Ash class made salsa! They used thier knowledge of kitchen saftey and hygiene to wash their hands, tie up hair and put on an apron. They then followed their own list of instructions to make their salsa in groups. The children then enjoyed their salsa with pitta bread. Well done Y3! :)

 In DT last week Apple class made hummus! They used their knowledge of kitchen safety and hygiene to wash their hands, tie up hair and put on an apron. They then followed thei own list of instructions to make hummus in groups. The children then enjoyed their dip with tortilla chips and pitta bread. Well done Y3! :)

Last week we went on a science and geography field trip to Mornington Woods. In science we measured the light levels of the different layers of the temperate rainforest using our luxmeters. The children have preactised using lux meters in the classroom and could confidently predict that the light levels would be the lowest on the forest floor as the plants would block the light. Super science Y3! They sketched different plants and went on a scaveger hunt! Followed by a well deserved icecream :)

 Today, year three visited Mornington Woods to recap some of their learning in Geography and Science. First, they went on a scavenger hunt to identify different plants and trees. Then, they looked at the four layers in the woods to compare them to the rainforest to see which plants and animals live there.in addition, they sat and sketched a scene of the woods. Finally, they use pd light metres to measure the light in different parts of the woods. It was then time for lunch and an ice cream, a good day.
