The Magic of Multiplication

This week, Year 3 have been learning how to multiply two digit numbers. We have been so impressed to see how hard they have worked when partitioning numbers to break down the problem and find the product in simpler steps. Year 3 have also learned that division is the inverse of multiplication.

Following this, they identified the four layers of the Earth as well as a simple definition of their characteristics. Finally,  they completed their new assessment grid.

Computing - Digital Devices

In Computing today we have been defining Digital Devices and identifying inputs and outputs. We learned that all digital devices have an input, process then output in order to help us. We then made designs for our own Digital Devices!

RE Festival Workshop-Spring Equinox

Today we looked at the Pagan festival of  Spring Equinox that is a celebration of new life.  It is held to mark the coming of spring and the daylight being equal to the night. Many pagans will celebrate by visiting monuments at sunrise or sunset, spending time quietly, making alters or singing. In this Pagan festival an egg is often seen to be a symbol of new life, so you may see nature themed decorated eggs around at this time, much the same as the traditional way Christians would have used eggs at Easter time. We had a go at decorating our very own eggs filled with nature and all the signs of spring.

Incredible Iron Age!

Image
On Wednesday, Year 3 had a visitor from the Iron Age! Holly showed us lots of fascinating iron age activities, games and jobs. We learned how to spin and weave wool from a real sheep, how to use a rotary quern to grind corn into flour, how to make pots out of clay and how to play some fun Iron Age games. We even chose Iron Age names for ourselves and learned a little about Iron Age law and order!

RE day - Holi

Today was RE day across Gurnard Primary School. Year 3 were exploring the concept of ‘good and evil’ in life and specifically in Hinduism. The children have learned the story of Prahlad and Lord Vishnu and have seen how the story is remembered and celebrated in the beautiful festival of Holi!  We enjoyed watching the children act out the story too!
